Please join with us: On Friday and Saturday afternoon, 9/26 and 9/27, from 2-3 pm the public is invited to attend talks given by two prominent figures in the field of Tibetan literary study and to join with us afterward for tea.

  • On Friday afternoon, Dzigar Kongtrül Rinpoche, will share with us his sense of the role and significance of Tibetan- English translation in contemporary times. Dzigar Kongtrül Rinpoche was trained by some of the most illustrious teachers of the generation that fled Tibet in 1959, including Dilgo Khyentse, Rinpoche. He is founder and head of the Mangala Shri Bhuti community, and author of several books, including the recently published Light Comes Through.

  • On Saturday, Professor Jeffrey Hopkins, founder of the prestigious University of Virginia graduate program in Tibetan language and literary studies, will share his many years of experience in the field of Tibetan translation.

Thinking through Texts: Toward a Critical Buddhist Theology of Sexuality

The lecture will focus on the tension between traditional and contemporary interpretations of Buddhist texts. Using teachings centered around sexuality, this talk will attempt to bridge the gap between these two extremes, while engaging with the texts critically.

José Ignacio Cabezón, Ph.D., is the esteemed XIV Dalai Lama Professor in Tibetan Buddhism and Cultural Studies University of California, Santa Barbara, and highly-regarded Tibetan-English translator and colleague.

  • Cynthia Moku, renowned thangka painter, will mount an exhibit of recent works on paper and canvas titled In Honor of Translation at the Boulder Shambhala Meditation Center throughout September. Please join us at the Shambhala Center, September 5th, from 6–8pm, for the opening.

  • "Fire Buddha" by Joan AndersonJoan Anderson will exhibit her beautiful work – Small Gestures, a series of small gold leaf drawings of mudras, sacred gestures of the Buddha - September 10 - October 3 at INDOCHINE, 2525 Arapahoe Avenue (in the Village Shopping Center near Sunflower Market and McGuckins), in Boulder. Please watch for announcements of the opening.




  • "Fire Buddha" by Joan AndersonCorey Kohn will show her startling and highly evocative, contemporary photography at the Folsom Street Coffee House throughout the month of September.

Conference of Translators Film Festival:

Between September 19th–28th, in association with the East-West Philosophy Group of Naropa University, Light of Berotsana will show four films at Naropa University: The Cup, Words of My Perfect Teacher, Ten Questions for the Dalai Lama, and Milarepa. There will be no charge for the art events or the films.
