Did you know...
that no one currently speaks the language that the Buddha spoke? Without translation, what would we know of the Buddha’s teachings?

“Light of Berotsana is engaging in some of the most important and meaningful Tibetan translation work to date. I believe that they are making a historic contribution to the establishment of genuine Buddhadharma in the West.”

Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche

2008 Conference of Translators

In 2008, Light of Berotsana hosted over 140 translators from around the world who gathered in Boulder, Colorado USA, for three days of provocative dialogue among peers regarding such topics as excellence in translation; language issues and dilemmas; personal projects and research; translation resources and technology; training, and mentorship. All translators of Light of Berotsana and many members of their support team organized, attended, and served the participants who included lamas, ordained, and lay translators and educators--as well as other interested parties--from the United States, Europe, South America and Asia. There was additional discussion and focus on safeguarding the future of translation of Tibetan texts into English. The Conference was a deeply meaningful and joyful event, as well as an incredible opportunity to meet one another in person to renew old friendships and create new ones.
